Sunset Cottage, Frieth, about 1981 - From Joan Barksfield's collection

Sunset Cottage is the first of the ten cottages along Innings Road mentioned on the previous page and is now considerably extended.

The oldest part is the room adjoining the road, and the room behind Fermain, the cottage to the right was added later and is now extensively rebuilt.

Fermain

During the 19th / 20th centuries Sunset and Fermain belonged to the West family and were workmen's cottages.

At one time the Higgs and the Whites lived side-by-side.  Will White and Robert Higgs were benchmen at the firm of West and Collier.

[ My father, Fred Barksfield, owned Sunset Cottage for a period in the 1960s and it was rented out - I don't know the dates exactly.

Recent research has revealed a lot more about the history of "Chilterns", the next property along, and Little Frieth - click here to read the full document ]
